Your way to Rushmore Mtn I made a stop at Crazy Horse Monument, the largest sculpture in progress in the world is on Highway 16/385 just 17 miles SW of Mtn Rushmore in South Dakota State.

Korczack sculptor Ziolkowski began the project in 1948 at the request of Lakota Indian tribe chief, Standing Bear Native American of several wise.Korczak died in 1982, his wife Ruth with other family members continue this project with Crazy Horse nonoprofit Foundation.
"My fellow Chiefs and I Would like the white man to know the red man HAS heroes, also."
Head of the Lakota tribe (Sioux) Standing Bear wrote these remarkable words addressed later in 1939 Korczack sculptor Ziolkowski, inviting him to the Black Hills to carve the mountain this majestic work to capture it on one of the chiefs hero Native American or Indian as I knew we Crazy Horse one of the greatest warriors of the Teton Sioux tribe Oglalas, who died just 35 pierced by a bayonet in 1877 when together with other chiefs are Fort Robinson in Nebraska to establish peace between Indians and white people, and here in the discussions lively altercation followed a little because i did not agree to take the horses and be arrested and the head of Crazy Horse was killed with a shot back.

Born in Boston in 1908 as successor of a Polish family, Korczak was orphaned at the age of one year and thus living without a strong family support has learned from early age to work hard.At age 16 he entered the Rindge Technical School in Cambridge and then in the summer of 1939 was a dream come true and was invited to be assistant to the great sculptor Gutzon Borglum to achieve work from Mt Rushmore figures of four presidents carved in mountain.
After spending the summer of 1939 with Gutzon, and following discussions with the tribal chief Standing Bear decided to engage in the Black Hills Crazy Horse sculpture, Lajota Sioux tribe's sacred sites.

And so at age 36 years and until his death on 10 October 1982 refused any salary for his work on this monument and to this day all the work there is no income from the government, otherwise 2 times the amounts were withheld $ 10 million donation made by the U.S. Government, the Indians refused to respect your wishes and Korczak LOI is not spending a dollar in taxes only people with money donated micilie held companies and people and the money raised from sales of the monument.

When Korczak came the first time here in the Black Hills was forced to live in pioneering the first two years, finding nothing but mountains and forest, no water, no electricity, no roads and no money.
He had to build himself a hut of wood so they can live or work near the construction site.
Just to climb the mountain to begin work Korczak built an incredible scale of 741 steps, 600 feet long - 182.9 meters which led her to climb and start work at 6740 feet altitude - 2054.35 meters.For the entire scale he used and carried back 29 tonnes of green wood at temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius in winter 1948-1949.

When Korczak died October 20, 1982, at age 72, his wife Ruth and other family members, the 10 sons and daughters and 24 grandchildren who were dedicated and they continue the dream or the now their dream, they create dedicated building that has been called by many one of the masterpieces of the modern world and wonder, never forgetting the words and advice lu Korczak:
"Go Slowly, So Do It Right!"

I knew nothing about construction and the Association believe that what is Mount Rushmore for Americans is what Crazy Horse represents for American Indians: an example of courage, honor, generosity and ambition!

It is amazing ....... I knew this building but did not know many details ..... I think it's an amazing country with beautiful and interesting history ..... Winetou if I see there ..... not that it had any connection but when I read the book with the adventures of those places I always imagined reality exceeds imginatia .... yet ....
